Translation

Listen to the story of Goddess Durga. She destroys the miseries. She takes care of the welfare of the three worlds. 1) The whole creation has a relationship with the Primal Goddess since eternity. One Who is not born or destroyed, that is Goddess Durga. O Divine Mother, Your forehead bears the radiance of the Moon and Your face is full of grandeur. Your eyes are red and Your frown is frightening. The auspicious pearl in Your nose looks beautiful. O Goddess with great illusion powers, Your image entices the hearts. O Divine Mother, You are the cherisher of the world. O consort of Lord Shiva, You are the Goddess of all. 2) O devotees, listen to Goddess forms and names in a serial order. They are Goddess Shailaputri, Goddess Brahmachārini, Goddess Chandraghanta, Goddess Kushmānda, Goddess Skanda Mātā, Goddess Kātyayani, Goddess Kālarātrī, Goddess Maha Gauri and Goddess Sidhidātri. The nine goddesses embellish in the nine forms. By having their Darshan, the fears and troubles go away. O Divine Mother, You hold the skull-cup, a crescent shaped sword and Trident in your hands seeing which the enemy’s heart aches with a sting of fear. By meditating on the nine forms of Goddess Durga, the nine planets do not do any harm. 3) Wherever the parts of the body of Goddess Sati fell on Earth, they became sacred sites (total 51 sites). Kamakhya Temple, Kalighat Kālī temple and Hinglaj are three of these sacred places. O Divine Mother, singing Your glories never goes in vain. 4) O Divine Mother, You are the slayer of the demon Mahishasur and the destroyer of the dreaded demon Rakt Beeja. You throw the heads of the demons on the ground. You are the fiercest in the battlefield in Goddess Chandi form. In Your angry Goddess Kālī form, You are thirsty and lick the blood of demons. You killed the demons Shumbha, nishumbha and other demon opponents with Your sword and Trident. Sometimes by the attack of weapons and sometimes with love - according to one’s deed the Divine Mother gives the reward. 5) Our humble salutations to the Divine Mother Whose sweet enchanting music made through the flute in Her hands puts the sweet-voiced nightingale to shame. O Divine Mother, You reside in the pleasant mountain groves which resound with the voice of tribal folks. Your playful place is filled with the flocks of virtuous tribal women. All glories to You Divine Mother Who has charming hair locks and is the daughter of the mountain.
