Translation
By selecting the best of things (which are dust only), one made a palace (as home). The fool then says, “This is my home”. In reality, neither is this my home nor yours. This is just a visit to this world through the cycle of birth and death. O being, you are wasting your energies in useless things. Ultimately you will be reduced to dust. Do not be so proud, one day you (as dust) will be carried away with the gust of wind. You can wear gold or silver or true diamonds. You can wear the best of pearls. But be certain that you have to die and leave behind everything. You can wear rough or fine clothes or you can wear pure cotton muslin (which is very fine and delicate). You can wear very expensive fine silks. But be certain that you have to die and leave behind everything. [2] Your mother will cry for many years because she gave birth to you. Your sister will cry for 12 months. Your wife will cry for 13 days and then she will hope to marry again. [3] You can live 1 day or 2 days or live for 85 years. Sant Kabir says “O wise beings, be certain that you have to die and leave behind everything.” [4]
