Sri Krishna the remover of sufferings came. Leaving His throne, Sri Krishna came. Seeing him from a distance, Krishna the Lord, bowed and leaving His throne came to Sudama. Sudama, a poor Brahman was the childhood best friend of Sri Krishna. Sudama’s wife always pestered him – ‘why not go and meet Sri Krishna - the Lord of the world to remove your poverty?’ [1] Sudama walked along perplexed and pondered how he could get reintroduced to Sri Krishna and who could help him meet the Lord? He reached the town of Dwarka and stood at the main gate of the palace. [2] First Sri Krishna walked around Sudama, and then touching his feet, the Lord embraced him. Washing Sudama’s feet, He drank that water and then made Sudama sit on His throne. [3] Sri Krishna lovingly enquired about his wellbeing and reminisced about the days when they served their Guru (Sandipani) together. Krishna asked for and ate the puffed rice and then personally saw Sudama off. Krishna sent Sudama the four blessings (righteousness, wealth, fulfilment of desire and liberation) with humility (without even letting him know). [4]
