Translation
O my Lord Ram. These are my lowly actions, my Lord. O Lord, treasure of virtue, merciful Lord, please bless me with Your grace and forgive me for all my mistakes. The soul of the man is lured by gold and women. Sweet is the delusion of māyā. The mind has become attached to the ownership of houses, palaces, horses and other enjoyments. When the Lord, my Master, does not enter my awareness, how can I possibly be liberated, O my sovereign Lord? [1] I have no beauty, no social status, no skill. With what face am I to speak [to You]? I have no virtue at all, for I have not chanted Your Name. I am a sinner, yet in the Guru’s company I am rescued - this merit comes from the Satguru alone. [2] He gave all living beings - bodies, mouths, noses and water to drink. He gave them grain to eat, clothes to wear, and other pleasures to enjoy. But they do not remember the One who gave them all this. The animal (i.e. fool) thinks that he has made them himself! [3] Everything that happens is by Your doing, You are the Inner Knower of all hearts. We are helpless beings, what can we do? Everything that happens is a part of Your play, O Lord and Master. Guru Ram Das (the 4th Nanak) says, “Like one bought from the slave market, I am the slave of the slaves (devotees) of the Supreme Lord” [4]
