Translation

The poet Saint Kabir says, “When I was born, the world smiled and I cried. I leave the world doing such great deeds that I smile and the world cries.” This shawl (the body and the mind) is a finely woven cloth drenched in the Holy Name of the omnipresent Lord Ram. The eight petaled lotus was used as the spinning wheel and the five elements as the yarn. It took9to 10 months to knit it. O fool you soiled it (you lost the awareness of the Lord)! [1] When my shawl came home after completion, I gave it to the dyer (the Guru) to color it (when I became ready for initiation, I came to the Guru). The dyer (the Guru) colored it so deeply and beautifully that it is all red (blessed with love). [2] After wearing this shawl, do not doubt (do not engage your body and mind in vicious acts). It is only given to you for two days (for very short while). The foolish people do not understand this and they soil it each day. [3] Great devotees such as Dhruva Maharaj, Prahlad Maharaj and Sudama wore this shawl. Sukadev made it pure. Sant Kabir wore this shawl in such a way that he left it as he received it (lived with complete awareness and love). [4] O fool chant the Name of the omnipresent Lord Ram! Chant the Name of the omnipresent Lord - that is your only task!
